I had what I considered to be an unusual opportunity yesterday – to see John Madejski installed as the new Chancellor of the University of Reading. Given that it had been 16 years since the last time this had happened I figured that I wasn’t going to get the opportunity again. I was invited as AppSwing have done some worh with the university over the last few years and someone was kind enough to put my name forward.
The ceremony took place in the London Road buildings of the University – somewhere I had driven past on numerious occasions without realsing what was behind the very ordinary exterior. It really is like a TARDIS. Behind the small frontage it opened out to a very attractive set of buildings and walkways. The whole thing took less than an hour as first Madejski was presented with an honorary docturate and then was installed as the chancellor taking over from Lord Carrington.
I was engaged by the process much more than I thought that I was going to be and it was all done with the sort of pomp and circumstance that only Britain can manage. Fantastic!
