Here’s the problem – I have too many things on the go. I have ideas for several books (scraps of which are on my laptop), a new social web site (server built, design started), my existing web sites (over 17 domains and counting!), a digital SLR that I got for my birthday two years ago that I have yet to fathom, a pile of books to read, an involved and involving job at AppSwing, and a family who insist on seeing me on an irregular basis.
Fortunately my personality does lend itself to this sort of issue. I have a very short attention span and flit between things with short bursts of energy. This does mean, however, that everything can take a very long time to reach a conclusion as each item on my to-do list only gets a small amount of time every now and then. Of course that is ok for a book I might want to read but not when it is something time critical, such as the launch of a web site that you want to catch the public with before they get too tired of social networking. For this particular project I have considered outsourcing the development to a third party such as rentacoder but that seems a bit of a cop out and would mean that I miss out on learning PHP. Oh did I not mention in the list above that I am learning PHP? And also Linux as I am going for the LAMP stack on the test server…
What I really need is to free up some time – retirement might fit the bill but I am still a way from achieving that through either recognised criteria (age or wealth). I guess that I will have to put off getting to grips with the SLR for another couple of years and my magnum opus will have to remain hidden for just a little longer!
