What has happened to our postal service? We used to get a really good postal delivery at home but over the last year it has steadily got worse. Previously we would get a couple of deliveries a day: one early and another mid-morning. This second post was dropped a while ago and, to be honest, that made little difference to us as we were at work anyway. However, since then the first delivery is getting later and later and typically now arrives around 4pm. Some days through it can be much later than that and has been as late as 7pm. While I cannot prove it I am also pretty certain that some days the postman doesn’t call at all. Meanwhile the price is stamps is to rise while the level of service drops.
My grandfather was a postman for many years and it was a sad day in the village where he worked when he retired as he was so reliable and give great service. Not something today’s Royal Mail can claim.

1What a great piece and so true. I hadn’t realised that you got post as late as you sometimes do. Grandpop would have been proud of your little reference to him.
